Connection of additional computers. The basic server can
support up to 25 local computers without significant degredation
of service. Beyond the first seven computers, additional network
switches are required for each group of seven. ($50 per computer
+ $50 for each additional switch needed).
-
Wireless ethernet may be substituted for wired ethernet.
This choice is both more expensive and slower than the wired network
(wired is at least ten times faster than wireless), but does not
require exposed cabling, or additional cost to embed wiring in
the walls. (Price is $38 per computer plus materials - a wireless
base is required in addition to a wireless network adaptor for
each wireless station)
-
Software based hard disk redundancy (RAID) - this feature
provides instant and automatic recovery of a single hard disk failure
(without any interruption in service). (Call for pricing)
-
UPS - this feature provides an uninterruptable power supply which
will prevent electric utility outages and surges from damaging
your equipment or data. ($110)

and software. With this feature a single 20GB tape can be
kept off-site to allow data recovery from theft or other catastrophic

one 20GB tape)

The fine print:
- The network
server computer is a 500Mhz or faster PC with 256MB DRAM and 10GB
or larger hard disk. A keyboard and mouse are provided,
but not needed with the server. No monitor is provided or
needed with the server. The server is intended to be located
in a corner or closet with adequate ventilation.
- Your existing
office PCs must be of a recent vintage (3 years or younger), running
Windows 98 or later operating system. It must have one
free PCI slot available to place the network interface card.
- The cabling
will be external (visible). At added cost, cabling can
be mounted in the walls or a wireless connection can be utilized.
- Dedicated
internet access (such as DSL or cable modem) are only required
if you wish to make use of the firewall, email, internet browsing,
and remote access capabilities of the server. Without dedicated
internet access, the server can still provide internal email, as
well as file and printer sharing. The price listed assumes
that your internet connection provides a 10/100BaseT ethernet interface
to the network server.
